The weekend before school started the kids and I decided to spend the day at Volo Auto Museum in Volo IL. I was hoping to make it a family event, but hubby had to work. Since school was quickly approaching I decided not to wait and to spend some time having fun with the kids. I am so happy that I did!
I had been to Volo Auto Museum years ago. Funny thing is that since living about 15 minutes away we have never gone. So this was the kids first visit. First thing I have to say is that this was the perfect place for me to be able to go by myself with both kids. There was tons to keep the kids engaged and being able to walk between building was great to give them some time to run. They also have playgrounds set up through the property with benches nearby. What a great idea because I was able to sit for a bit and let the kids run and play.
Both kids really enjoyed themselves. Jonathan loves cars so this was a real treat for him. What made it really cool though was the new Cars in Wonderland Exhibit. Both kids found a few of their favorites.
For Jonathan, his favorite was definitely Lightning McQueen from Cars.
Emma was able to be her favorite princess, Snow White by posing with all the Seven Dwarfs.
Cars in Wonderland Exhibit it has all your favorite childhood cars from the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine to Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater from CARS all surrounded by movie-like setting from your favorite Disney and Looney Tunes Cartoons, such as Beauty and the Beast, Litter Mermaid, Coyote and Road Runner and others.
As much as Emma loved all the Disney displays she did say that her very favorite car was Ghostbusters. She danced to the Ghostbuster theme song last year in her dance recital so it was really cool for her to see the actual car. For Jonathan he also loved the Batmobile. He loves Batman and even got a Batmobile for his birthday this year.
The only downside that we found was that Jonathan just could not understand why he couldn’t get in the cars. There were so many “cool cars”and he wanted to take them for a ride! I am sure many guys out there could understand his disappointment The guys at Volo did offer me a solution for this however. He suggested that I buy him one of the “cool cars”. I don’t think the 3 year old should have a nicer car then both his parents though.
We really did have a great time. We saw lots of really cool cars, played at the playground and even did a little antique shopping before heading home. It was so nice to spend this time with the kids before school started. We will definitely be back!
